Gmail Send mail as is ending in 2027: keep your address

Gmail ends Send mail as for other addresses and POP fetching by January 2027. What stops, what still works, and how to keep sending as you@yourdomain.

What's ending, and when

Send mail as a third-party address
What happens: Gmail will no longer support it, so you can't pick that address in the From menu. [1]
When: Starting January 2027 [1]
Check mail from other accounts (POP)
What happens: Gmail stops fetching mail from other accounts, and the option leaves Gmail on the web. [2]
When: Closed to new users after the first quarter of 2026; existing users until January 2027 [2]
Gmailify
What happens: Spam protection, inbox categories and faster search stop for third-party accounts. [2]
When: Same change as POP [2]

What keeps working: Google Workspace aliases and other Gmail addresses you own can still be used with Send as [1]. Mail already synced stays in Gmail [2], and the Gmail app on Android, iPhone and iPad can still add another account over IMAP [2].

Check whether it affects you

  1. In Gmail on a computer, open Settings, then See all settings, then Accounts and import (or Accounts). [1]
  2. Under Send mail as, look for any address that isn't a Gmail address, such as you@yourdomain.com. That's the part that stops in January 2027. [1]
  3. Under Check mail from other accounts, look for any account Gmail fetches from. That's the POP part. [2]

Neither listed? Nothing changes for you. Your own domain's mail usually reaches Gmail one of two ways: a forward (from your domain host, or from Cloudflare Email Routing) or a POP fetch. Replies usually go out through Send mail as.

Keep receiving: switch POP to a forward

Google's own suggestion for mail Gmail used to fetch is to forward it instead: set up automatic forwarding at the other provider, so new messages arrive in your Gmail inbox. [2] If your domain is on Cloudflare, Email Routing is a free forward. See Cloudflare Email Routing, and if a forward stops arriving, Email Routing not working.

Keep sending as your address

A forward only brings mail in. After January 2027, replying from Gmail sends from your Gmail address, not you@yourdomain, so the sending half needs a new home. [1] The choices:

Your mail provider's own app or webmail
Read and send at the provider that hosts the address. On a phone, the Gmail app can still add it as a separate IMAP account. [2]
A hosted mailbox for the domain
Move the domain's mail to a provider that receives and sends for it, and drop the forward.
Ayoh, in your Cloudflare account
Ayoh receives through Cloudflare Email Routing and sends through Cloudflare Email Service, so you read and reply as you@yourdomain in one inbox. Nothing to Ayoh; Cloudflare's Workers Paid plan is $5 a month. See the costs.

Before you switch, check the domain's records

Whatever sends for the domain next needs SPF and DKIM for it, and a domain can have only one SPF record. The email DNS checker shows what's there now, and SPF, DKIM and DMARC on Cloudflare shows how to merge records.
